Dr. Xiaoping Qian is an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 2001. He was a research engineer at GE Global Research Center in Niskayuna, NY from 2001 to 2004. He was with the Illinois Institute of Technology from 2004 to 2013.

His research interests include:

1) geometric modeling,

2) isogeometric analysis,

3) shape and topology optimization of multi-physics systems, and

4) their broad applications in engineering design, manufacturing and biomedical fields.
